The Pelkmann Foreign Body Forceps offers a wide array of surgical advantages for general surgeons. Its principal use is to grasp and mobilize foreign objects away from the operating site.
For this purpose, the instrument comes with a pair of small jaws with serrated opposing surfaces. Moreover, the jaws come in straight and curved patterns. This last feature added to their small size, make this forceps ideal to grasp not only foreign bodies but also small dressings.
In addition, the device features a pair of elongated shafts that connect the boxlock to a ratchet. Also, the ratchet helps in providing self-retaining grasps for maneuvering the foreign objects with ease.
